Welcome

I am Ilyse Dobrow DiMarco, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist who practices in New Jersey.  I specialize in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults with anxiety disorders. I have a sub-specialty in CBT for fertility and pregnancy-related anxiety and mood problems. I hope this website will be a useful resource for anyone interested in learning more about what CBT is and how to access it.

I've recently started blogging about anxiety, mood, and CBT. Click here to check out my blog.

Thoughts on Therapy

The Importance of Rewarding Yourself

In CBT, we spend a lot of time talking about change and how change can be achieved. However, it's also important to recognize that change can be very difficult, especially when you are attempting to overhaul longstanding patterns of behavior.

Hard work deserves to be rewarded. So be sure to reward yourself for any changes you make, regardless of how small. Be sure to pick appropriate rewards that are not connected with the behavior you're trying to change (i.e. if your goal is weight loss, don't reward yourself with food).

Even if you have a long way to go, don't forget to celebrate how far you've already come.
