The Importance of Rewarding Yourself

In CBT, we spend a lot of time talking about change and how change can be achieved. However, it's also important to recognize that change can be very difficult, especially when you are attempting to overhaul longstanding patterns of behavior.

Hard work deserves to be rewarded. So be sure to reward yourself for any changes you make, regardless of how small. Be sure to pick appropriate rewards that are not connected with the behavior you're trying to change (i.e. if your goal is weight loss, don't reward yourself with food).

Even if you have a long way to go, don't forget to celebrate how far you've already come.
